National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme was established in the college as a in 1978 a support service.  It provides opportunity to the student youth to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service.

The NSS Badge Proud to Serve the Nation:

  1. All the youth volunteers who opt to serve the nation through the NSS led community service wear the NSS badge with pride and a sense of responsibility towards helping needy.
  2. The Konark wheel in the NSS badge having 8 bars signifies the 24 hours of the day, reminding the wearer to be ready for the service of the nation round the clock i.e., for 24 hours.
  3. Red colour in the badge signifies energy and spirit displayed by the NSS volunteers.
  4. The Blue colour signifies the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.

Motto:

The motto of National Service Scheme is “NOT ME BUT YOU”. Its meaning is, I and I have to do something for the society or for others and not for myself.

Benefits of Being a NSS Volunteer:

A NSS volunteer who takes part in the community service programme would either be a college level or a senior secondary level student. Being an active member, these student volunteers would have the exposure and experience to be the following:

  • an accomplished social leader
  • an efficient administrator
  • a person who understands human nature

Aims and Objectives:

  1. To develop a healthy relationship of students with community.
  2. To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve it in problem solving.
  3. To develop a sense of social and civil responsibility among students.
  4. To encourage ultimate leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
  5. To inculcate skills required for group living and sharing of responsibilities.

Outcomes:

  1. Students are sensitized about the constitutional obligations: values, rights, duties and responsibilities of citizens.
  2. Blood donation camps helped to avail blood to all needy people even in pandemic situations.
  3. Students have contributed to the adopted villages and community by construction of bunds, cleanliness programmes, watershed management, social integrity, eradication of superstitions, De-addiction programmes and development through Special winter camps and summer camp, rallies, Street act play, etc.
